CCGS Genealogy Room		The Cape Cod Genealogical Society's Genealogy Room is located in the Dennis Public Library, 5 Hall Street, Dennis Port, MA. CCGS Volunteers are available to assist patrons in all aspects of genealogy research. A handout packet of useful genealogical forms and information is available for beginning researchers. When visiting the Cape and looking for some of your ancestors, be sure to drop by to see how we can help.

Collections

CCGS library materials have been acquired by direct purchase and by donation. This is a reference collection; items do not circulate, but must be used in the library. The collection is strong in guide books about how to do genealogy, with files of tips and helpful hints. Subject concentration is on Cape Cod people, but coverage is worldwide. Current genealogical magazines and newsletters of general and regional interest bring the latest information to our shelves regularly. The growing collection of information on CD is helping us manage limited library space, yet provide volumes of data. Those who live at a distance may access parts of the collection by mail using our copy service.

Books:

The Society's book collection includes volumes covering the following categories of genealogical interest. All are available for reading in the Genealogy Room.

	Biography		Family histories and genealogies, Cape Cod and beyond

	Cemeteries		Books listing names of persons interred, describing gravestones and epitaphs in cemeteries in Plymouth and Barnstable Counties

	History		Volumes related to early New England and Cape Cod history, including soldiers and sailors of various wars, early settlers and immigrants

	Massachusetts Towns		Histories of towns on Cape Cod and other areas of Massachusetts, including some vital records

	Mayflower Families		Mayflower Families Through Five Generations and related titles published by the Society of Mayflower Descendants

	Sources		Census records, tax lists and other sources citing names of persons

	"How-To" Genealogy Research Guides		Aids to researching specific areas of genealogy

Other Holdings:

	Magazines:		CCGS has subscriptions to about 25 genealogical periodicals.

	CDs:		A computer workstation in the Genealogy Room is reserved for CD users to access more than 50 CD titles.

	Archives:		In addition to the listed collections, the library has unpublished information and personal papers which may be of interest to researchers. Although some of these items have not yet been catalogued, more finding aids are being added regularly to our collection.

	I.G.I.:		The International Genealogical Index, 1988 edition, is available on microfiche in the Genealogy Room, where there is a microfiche reader (no printer, however). The I.G. I. is an index to names in public records which have been entered into the computer files of the Genealogical Department of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Utah.
